DMDMH cas: 6440-58-0 is 1,3-dihydroxymethyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin with the molecular formula C7H12N2O4. It is a colorless and transparent liquid with a slight aldehyde odor. It crystallizes when the ambient temperature is below 15 ℃ and is soluble in water and alcohol. It has good heat resistance. DMDM hydantoin is a commonly used formaldehyde releasing preservative in cosmetics, which can inhibit Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, fungi, etc. and has good compatibility with various emulsifiers and surfactants. DMDMH is not affected by anionic, cationic, or nonionic surfactants and can maintain stability over a wide range of pH and temperature. DMDMH has a relatively mild effect, is safe and non-toxic at usage concentrations, and does not irritate the skin or eye mucosa. It is currently one of the most commonly used preservatives in cosmetics. DMDM hydantoin is included as a standard preservative component in the "Cosmetic Safety Technical Specification (2015 Edition)" and its revised versions, with a maximum allowable concentration of 0.6%, and does not pose a health hazard to the human body.
